What do I need to go Remote?

Welcome

We are entering a new exciting era in remote telescope hosting. We are located in the outback desert of South Australia, near a small town named Moorook.

Our skies provide unprecedented levels of clear conditions, with no moon in the sky, even with dark eye adaptation you will have trouble seeing the ground. The southern Milky Way bulges from east-west across half of the
sky, and most Messier objects are easily visible with the naked eye; the only limiting factor is your eyesight!

As Site Director, I enjoy astronomy and have seen first-hand the exciting advances in technology over the years.

This web site's primary purpose is to publicly display our fine weather conditions, so prospective customers who are considering the idea of "remote operation" can get a first-hand accurate idea of the clear skies that Riverland Dingo Observatory Telescope Farm enjoy. Our very dark, clear skies provide excellent viewing conditions. We have kept records of the number of clear nights suitable for CCD imaging. Our percentage of clear nights in 110 days of record keeping is 70%. For up to date stats on our weather, please click on the "Weather History" link above. We have monitored other locations around Australia and have by far the highest number of cloudless nights in Australia. Sight normally ranges from 1.5" to 2.8" FWHM with best being around 1" FWHM and the maximum being around 4.5 FWHM.

We work hard to maintain the high standard that our customers expect from us. We are well versed in the operation of Paramounts , Takahashi, RCOS, Computing and networking and the general operation of complex remote telescope operations. Additional support is provided by Brad Moore if needed.

We look forward to your enquiries.

Darren Wallace, Site Director.
